Lottery Brief

After 12 employees at a Boca Raton realty firm won the $1 million Florida Lottery Monday, workers gave a portion of their earnings to an assistant who did not contribute to the office pool.

Donald Hubert Realty workers contributed $20 each last week to the office lottery pool. However, Joan Gray, an administrative assistant, said she could not afford to participate because she had been at the firm for only two weeks and had not received her first paycheck.

Nedra Fernander, office team leader, offered to lend Gray the money, but Gray declined.

Once the employees learned they had a winning ticket, they each decided to give Gray a portion of the prize.
